Ultental... one of the most unspoiled valleys in South Tyrol - meadows, mountains and moreA hearty welcome to the Ultental Valley near Meran/Merano! This unspoiled and idyllic valley is only half an hour from the spa town of Meran/Merano with the villages St. Pankraz/S. Pancarzio, St. Walburg/S. Valburga, St. Nikolaus/S. Nicolò and St. Gertraud/S. Gertrude. The valley is about 40 km long reaching from the Stilfserjoch/Stelvio National Park to the border of Meran. The Falschauer River flows through the valley.
Celebrities have also visited the Ultental Valley
During the 19th and the start of the 20th century many celebrities visited the Ultental Valley: Empress Elisabeth from Austria, Bismarck, Defregger, Hermann Sudermann, Franz Kafka, Hermione von Preuschen, Capitular Earl zur Lippe, Thomas Mann (who finished the Buddenbrooks here), and Heinrich Mann. Many came because of the renowned doctor and philosopher Christoph Hartung von Hartungen, who operated a sanatorium in Riva at Lake Garda and also owned a summer residence near St. Nikolaus.
Ulten hiking paradise
The Ultental Valley provides a varied offer for hikers. Here you'll find everything from well sign-posted hiking paths to high alpine tours. The highest mountain in Ultental is the "Hintere Eggenspitze" Peak at 3443 m.
Schwemmalm ski resort
At the centre of the valley you'll find the small and quiet ski resort Schwemmalm. Furthermore, a cross-country track leads from St. Nikolaus/S. Nicolò to St. Gertraud/S. Gertrude, and the Albl Funpark is ideal for families.
